Middle School Math – Ms. Bleecker

Jessica Bleecker

Jessica Bleecker

My goal is to create an environment where students enjoy learning math. I do not expect all students to find a true love of math but I do intend to create a positive learning environment where student find joy in the classroom. Each concept relates to real world examples and helps connects to the students’ lives. With songs, sayings, and tricks learning math will be exciting and become a mastered core subject.

Supply List

5th Grade

We will be focusing on modeling, investigating, and reasoning. We will also be focusing on the Standards for Mathematical Practice and CCSS.

In fifth grade we will dive deeply into fraction and decimals with all operations. We will be spending time comparing the two as well as mastering their relationships. We will also be covering measurements and touching on geometry. Students will learn to recognize expressions and patterns and learn how to use algebraic thinking when solving real-world word problems.

All students have a personal log-in for their text-book and can access it at any time from here.

6th Grade

This year we are using Mathematics: Concepts and Skills. We will be using our critical thinking and problem solving skills for all concepts. We will be focusing on the Standards for Mathematical Practice and CCSS.

In sixth grade we take on equations! We use our fundamental skills to solve equations for one variable with integers, fractions, and decimals. Students learn to build and solve proportions, ratios, equations, and to think statistically. Students will learn to apply their growing skills to real-world word problems.

7th Grade

This year we are using California Pre-Algebra. We will be using our critical thinking and problem solving skills for all concepts. We will be focusing on the Standards for Mathematical Practice and CCSS.

In 7th grade we tackle linear equations and relationship! We use our growing fundamental skills to solve multiple step linear equations for with integers, fractions, and decimals. Students learn to apply scale proportions, graph, solve and understand equations, enhance understanding or geometric figures, and use statistical thinking. Students will learn to apply their growing skills to real-world word problems and projects.

8th Grade

This year we are using Algebra 1: Concepts and Skills. We will be using our critical thinking and problem solving skills for all concepts. We will be focusing on the Standards for Mathematical Practice and CCSS.

In eighth grade we dig deep into systems equations and their relationship. We use our growing fundamental skills to solve multiple step equations two variable with irrational and rational numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals. Students learn to graph linear and nonlinear equations and inequalities, solve and understand translations and rotations enhancing understanding of geometric figures on a plane, and use application of methods to real life scenarios. Students will learn to analyze problems with their growing skills as they complete real-world word problems and projects.

Support for Students

Study Hall

For grade 4-8 every Monday and Thursday afterschool from 3:30 to 4:30 is Study Hall in the 7th grade classroom. This hour allows students to work in a structured environment with limited distractions. It is a great time to ask questions about assigned homework and study for upcoming test!

TenMarks

Students can visit TenMarks anytime! Beyond the assigned questions, students may do “Jam Sessions” to brush up on basics, practice current material, and master concepts.

Staying Connected

All students have access to Google Classroom at any time, with a personal log-in. On Google Classroom they will find assignments, worksheets, and other important information about our class throughout the year.

Throughout the year we will be using Mathletics and TenMarks to support student’s learning and understanding of all concepts.

All daily math homework assignments can be found on the Saint Isabella Google Calendar
