7th & 8th Grade Literature and Social Studies
Academics   >   7th & 8th Grade Literature and Social Studies

In the 7th grade, Social Studies covers Medieval and Early Modern times. We begin with the Roman Civilization and travel through time to The Age of Enlightenment. The 7th graders spend time learning about Medieval Japan, Europe, and the Renaissance. During our Renaissance study, the students take an in-depth look at Renaissance art and artists. When studying the Age of Exploration, the students are asked to choose an explorer to write a paper about.

In 8th grade Social Studies is focused on American History. It is very exciting subject matter and contains various projects which focus on the American Revolution, U.S. presidents, the Civil War, and a term paper which covers a variety of historic American subjects. In years past, the students had the opportunity to experience a bit of Vietnamese culture when a speaker from Vietnam spent time with the class sharing her stories of life in Vietnam and bringing the class tasty Vietnamese treats such as egg roles and Asian candy!

Through speaking the students will demonstrate their ability to communicate within informal and formal situations. They will become articulate, confident speakers sharing their ideas by way of group and class discussions and oral reports. The students will benefit from the opportunity provided by the school to participate in speech contests and various dramatic productions and skits. They will practice persuasive speaking able to clearly express their points of view.
