Technology Integration
Academics   >   Technology Integration

Tom Wachs
We are very excited this year that St. Isabella has adopted the technology integration program of Beyond Technology Education, Inc. This program includes a thematic technology curriculum for Kindergarten through Eighth Grades that teaches computer skills within engaging lessons. This student learning is complemented within the program by professional development for the faculty that will extend their technology skills and assist them in learning to plan for the effective use of technology in their classrooms.

The goal for faculty is to leverage their existing content area expertise while increasing sound standards-based technology integration. For teachers, technology will become an additional strategy that they can effectively utilize to motivate and engage students and use to provide an additional form of assessment.

Coaches from Beyond Technology Education have already met with all faculty to help them develop effective lesson planning strategies and to assist teachers in preparing an initial integration project that will be presented with Mr. Wachs’ support in January.

At all grade levels students maintain a portfolio throughout the year that will be sent home at the end of each quarter with the work from that quarter along with a technology skills checklist completed by each student, tracking the computer skills they have learned and applied.

Orr yearlong Kindergarten theme is Relationships and First Grade is working with the theme of Personal Responsibility. Second through Eighth Grades have the overarching theme of Choices.

During the first quarter this year, the school technology focus was on word processing skills, applied at each grade level within projects that connected with their theme.

During the second quarter, the skills focus shifts to spreadsheets and databases while the thematic focus remains the same at each grade level. Kindergarten and First Grade will consider Money Relationships and Second through Eighth Grades will be focusing on Time Choices.
