We are excited this year at St. Isabella to continue to present the technology integration program of Beyond Technology Education, Inc. This program uses a thematic project based, integrated approach to teaching both computer skills and increasing the use of technology in the classroom.
This student learning is complemented within the program by professional development for the faculty that will extend their technology skills and assist them in learning to plan for the effective use of technology in their classrooms.
The goal for faculty is to leverage their existing content area expertise while increasing sound standards-based technology integration. For teachers, technology will become an additional strategy that they can effectively utilize to motivate and engage students and use to provide an additional form of assessment.
Coaches from Beyond Technology Education will continue to meet with faculty to help them develop effective lesson planning strategies and to assist teachers in preparing integration projects are presented with Miss Bishop’s support in the second, third and fourth quarters.
At all grade levels students maintain portfolios throughout the year that will be sent home at the end of each quarter with the work from that quarter along with a technology skills checklist completed by each student, tracking the computer skills they have learned and applied.
During the 2011-2012 school year the kindergarten theme is Relationships, the first grade theme is Responsibility, and the second through eighth grades will have the theme of Manners and Etiquette. Each quarter we will focus on a different aspect of the theme while increasing their skills in the appropriate application.
